Event Materials (Key Required)
The 2026 CPT update brings meaningful changes to diagnostic imaging and interventional reporting. Revised language for ultrasound and duplex studies, clearer direction for imaging performed during procedures, and updated terminology for diagnostic intent will guide how radiology and interventional services are reported in the coming year. These updates affect routine imaging, procedure guidance, and documentation used to support separate diagnostic studies.
This session is designed for professionals who support accurate and consistent reporting across radiology and IR workflows. It explains the 2026 CPT changes in practical terms, applies them to realistic imaging and procedural examples, and highlights how documentation should reflect the updated definitions. Participants will learn how to apply revised CPT terminology, identify when separate imaging may be reported, and use the new guidance with confidence in day-to-day coding and reporting.
Dedicated to radiology and interventional coding teams, physicians, technologists, and clinical documentation professionals, this program provides clear direction on how to use the 2026 CPT updates with accuracy and consistency across the radiology and IR spectrum.
Educational Objectives:
- Apply revised 2026 CPT terminology for diagnostic imaging and interventional procedures
- Identify documentation elements that support code selection for ultrasound and duplex studies
- Determine when diagnostic imaging may be reported separately during an interventional service
- Use updated CPT language to support imaging guidance during procedures
- Apply clinical intent requirements to imaging performed before therapeutic work begins
- Use practical examples to apply new code descriptions to real radiology and IR scenarios
- Recognize how revised coding rules influence communication between clinicians and coding teams
- Support consistent reporting across radiology departments, outpatient centers, and IR practices
Areas Covered in the Session:
- Updated terminology and descriptions for 2026 diagnostic imaging codes
- Revised definitions and expectations for duplex studies and ultrasound documentation
- How CPT now addresses imaging intent in radiology and IR procedures
- When diagnostic imaging can be reported separately during interventional work
- Requirements for imaging guidance documentation in IR settings
- Supporting code selection using procedure notes, findings, and clinical purpose
- Common radiology and IR scenarios demonstrating correct 2026 reporting
- Clarifying documentation expectations between radiology reports and procedure notes
- Applying updated terms to vascular imaging and ultrasound commonly used in IR
- Practical reporting language that supports accurate code selection using 2026 CPT standards
- Live Q&A Session
